Develop Your Own Additions

But wait, there’s more! Are you someone with a lot of free time on your hands and some basic programmer skills? If so, you can ensure your eternal place in history by contributing to the BESMCG open source project. Amaze your friends by being the first to implement Cute & Fuzzy Cockfighting Seizure Monsters for the character generator. Most things require absolutely no programming whatsoever, but can be added by making creative additions to STAttributeList.txt. Of course, there’s no documentation whatsoever, but that just makes it more of a challenge, right? Come on, we dare you.

You can also help out the project by finding bugs. We know there are plenty out there, and we can’t guarantee that we’ll be able to get to fixing them any time soon, but if you find one let us know.

And for the truly stalwart of heart, you can download the development version of the character generator. BESMCG is written in Cincom Smalltalk 7, which you can download free of charge (for noncommercial purposes) from Cincom’s Fantasic Web Site.

What is Smalltalk? Smalltalk is a super object oriented language that was developed in 1980 by the brilliant folks a Xerox PARC. If you’ve programmed in Java or C++ before, Smalltalk is just like them except about a billion times better. It is so cool it will blow your mind—we guarantee it. Find out more about Smalltalk here, then download it here. If you’ve got any questions, drop us a line: we are always willing to talk Smalltalk.
