Zero Stuff

Trump

Aife is the only child of Lucien and Inixia, his chaosian wife. Her official family trump shows a younger Aife, from the time she spent in Amber. In it she is a girl around 16 years of age, light brown hair cut at the shoulder. She wears an elegant dress of indigo and black fit for a dinner party, yet with her right hand she balences a longsword point down on her index finger. Face forward she regards you with a mischivious grin. Despite all this, her eyes are what catch your attention, so dark you cannot tell where iris and pupil meet.

That, however, was a long time ago.

History

Aife was born into an age of Amber filled with suspicion and guided by the iron clad fist of the new king. It was public knowlege that her father Lucien disapproved of the events that led to the crowning of Benedict. Because of this, and due to his formidable power and relations within the Courts of Chaos, Lucian was regarded as a potential threat to the crown. Unwilling to risk his further discontent and perhaps unable to restrict the movements and activities of such an advanced initiate of The Pattern, the king forbade him from bringing his only daughter with him on his trips into shadow and Chaos. And so it was that Aife spent the majority of her childhood in castle Amber, being raised by the aunts and uncles and servants that could stand her impish sense of humor. Her father she saw less than often as he was forced to divide all of his time between his craft, his wife and other business in Chaos, interests among the Golden Circle and his daughter held in Amber.

It was during one of his visits to the Courts of Chaos that Aife's father disappeared. Rumored to have been killed along with his wife by Lords of Chaos, Lucien was presumed dead and never heard from again. Soon after the news arrived, Aife was made a ward of Benedict who raised her for the remainder of her adolescence. From him she learned the ways of combat and war, an art she immersed herself into. Always she would avoid the things that would remind her of her father, for they were also the things that had always kept him from her. The Pattern, the hammer and forge... and Chaos.

The night before her 18th birthday, when she was to walk The Pattern, Aife was contacted through The Logrus by a woman of obsidian skin and hair that fell from her head as fire. She was Inixia, her still living mother, and she would show Aife the truth and reveal her heritage. Ten seconds later the castle was on high alert, for certain individuals had felt such a powerful thouch of Chaos so close to home. At twenty, guards burst in through every door to hold off any demonic intruders that might have infiltrated , but there were none. Finally at thirty seconds, a man entered into Aife's bedchambers holding a knife, to correct a mistake he had let live for too many years. Aife was not there. Ripped through infinite shadow in the space of an instant, submerged into a world of evershifting sanities, and still in her bedclothes, Aife stood unfazed before her mother. The mirth that she always wore on her lips now gone and replaced by grim determination.

A Truth

Her mother told her of her father's death. It was not Lords of Chaos but assassins sent by Benedict himself who killed Lucien. Her father had been killed because of his final creation, a sword of pure Chaos. Forged from a primal shadow in its final moments of chaotic annihilation it was a dark twin to the pattern blades. Although it was only a grand experiment of her fathers, Benedict had seen it as a weapon to kill Amberites and order. He had seen it as a sign of alliance to Chaos and treason to Amber. Lucien had died a meaningless death. That was the truth that she offered and the sword and logrus was her heritage. Much like how her father had walked The Pattern before he was ready, Aife now recklessly accepted the challenge of Logrus. Unable to control her body adequatley, Aife was lost in the Logrus for a month before she emerged a new person. The Logrus had shown her infinite possibilities, future and past. She knew what she could do now. The smile of mirth returning to her lips, she decided to make that blade worth the murder of her father.

I assume you're going to add history later? Also don't forget a link smile

Oh and after putting so many points into warfare I'm looking to win 1st, so let me know if I have to shift things around for it. As for endurance, I'm kinda curious if anyone actually put in more than 64. Since I'm not really willing to fight for it though, if you don't wanna tell me, that's fine.
Btw... link?

-- BenBernard - 05 Jun 2007

AWESOME!

You are currently winning endurance and warfare (though there are definitely other martial characters).

For the link, I mean the person you are strongly connected to... is it Benedict? Is it Inixia?

Great writeup!

Be sure to see Leslie's connection suggestion over at GeneralDiscussion

Hey Ben. I came up with this mini-story to flavor my character about an hour and a half ago while I was trying to sleep. I don't really know how to make nodes or anything so I figured I'd just post it here and let you decide if you want to put in anywhere.

The Dream of Hendrake

"Mother. I believe I had a nightmare.", I said rising from my bed.

"Oh? But if you do not know, then how can it be called such?", she replied. Her black skin of obsidian shone with blood and the flames that were her hair still carried the scent of scorched flesh. It was obvious that she had just returned from some battle.

"I dreamt of thunder and lightning...

Thunder and lightning cracked the sky into fragments. It was a brief prelude of what was to come. This shadow and everything in it, infinite in it's boundary, was but a glorified field of battle. The forces amassed against me shook the very foundations of what reality could contain without collapsing in upon itself in a wave of inconceivability.

The number...

Oh but to speak of them in numbers would be a folly, a misdirection into believing the uncountable could be counted. Entire shadows had been emptied to fuel this. They surrounded me not in any direction, but in all dimensions.

The Logrus told me such.

Not the fleets of all the greatest navies that now sailed upon the boiling methane seas of this world or the ships that soared upon the sky was the extent of this, and they were counted as one counts the atoms in the sun. No. They were only what could be contained in this miniscule infinite universe that I stood in. In truth the shadows around me teemed with mirrored force. So grand was it to be compared to the ancient Thunderbirds of legend, whose form was so mighty that the most one could take in at once was a single feather, and that feather took up the sky.

Silhouetted by 100 suns brought in to illuminate the battle was the form of the god of war, confident, expectant, and eager to meet the challenge of a brash child who would play at his game. Perhaps he was even a little hopeful to find something he had not seen in so many ages.

With silence, for no sound could exist that could drown out the ambient rumble of this war machine, the silhouette raised his spear and his forces fell upon me.

With fury, I gave my battle cry in return and it was heard. For it was with the Logrus that I brought into these worlds the death cries of the fringe shadows as they fell into Oblivion and Chaos. The sound which cannot be described and survived knocked down the first wave of my enemy, infantry equal to 10 shadow worlds of men, I say.

Horribly they died.

But more were to come.

My forces began to rise.

The God of War smiled, but all I had for him was a grin of sharpened teeth.

Woken by the sound of oblivions call, each grain of sand and every blade of grass grew into demons of the Abyss. They fell upon my enemy. The living stars in the sky began to fall at my command, collapsing in upon themselves as the entropy of my heart tainted their fusion souls. As they struck my foe each went nova then black, taking a world of men each time.

The battle continued still.

No longer did our armies of armies meet upon the field, for the field had become naught but the layers the of felled and broken before them. It was not long that mountains were buried under bodies and the oceans had been overflowed by 100 times their amount in blood. This infinite shadow had been one vast world, but even that battlefield had been too small for out meeting.

Finally there came the time when no more could die. The shadows were all full. It was as if the rules laid out by Chaos and Order in the beginning of time had not accounted for our scale of death and had passed into shock. It was then that I faced him.

We were unrecognizable, more gore than anything else. It is a truly disturbing and exhilarating thing to discover the amount of death one can carry upon his or her person. We had found this limit a million times over before this meeting, and the only parts of him I could still see were the whites in his eyes.

... and that was my dream". As I spoke these last words I realized that I had closed my eyes to relive the vision and quickly opened them again. I noticed that mother had closed hers as well. Moments passed in silence.

Patting my head as if I were still a child she spoke softly to me. "My daughter Aife. It was not a nightmare that you had but the Dream of Hendrake and the destiny of our Great House." Mother gently pushed me back into bed. Caressing my tired face once she whispers, "now go back to sleep and may you find sweet dreams again".

So you're ok with others reading this? If so I'll move it to a public node... (haven't read it yet, but I'm eager to)

-Ben

Just got done reading it... Oh man, that was so awesome! Very very nice, I especially liked "They were only what could be contained in this miniscule infinite universe that I stood in." I think we should post it where others can see!

-Ben

Yea post it public. That's fine.

-Ghen-ki

Awesome, done ADreamOfWar. Take 2 points if you want for writing it smile

-Ben

Post session 1

just updating everyone's characters with a note on stats: I have you spending 10 points (plus 2 for the story) on warefare, putting you at 112 war and 10 points left unused

I would like to buy a family friend (2pt version) in House Hendrake. Should I make up the person or will you do the whole secret friend thing from the book?

-- GhenkiTseng - 22 Jun 2007

I can do that if you want, but if you have some thoughts that would be fine... I thought you were in House Hendrake? or is this an extra-special friend?

-- BenBernard - 22 Jun 2007

I am in fact in House Hendrake. I'm looking for an good friend that I can count on. I wasn't thinking another warrior. Maybe a courtier of the house. He keeps me apprised of the goings on in the courts and trumps me when anything big happens in chaos that I might be interested in. An NPC in power that I can trust.

-- GhenkiTseng - 23 Jun 2007

How about this?

Cu'Ruun (Courtier of Hendrake)

Formerly of the House Sawall, Cu'Ruun became involved in a scandle within his own house when he refused to give up investigations into the assassination of several powerful individuals in the courts including his brother Cu'Meert, as well as the visiting Prince of Amber Lucien. His inquireies led him to uncover a dark truth about the heads of his house, and ultimatly ended in his ejection from Sawall altogeather. Falsely implicated in the murders, Cu'Ruun would have faced a death sentence or exile had Aife, the daughter of Lucien, not stepped in and offered to champion him in a trial by combat. Cu'Ruun has, since then, found a place in Hendrake as a courtier who holds honor above loyalty, a trait respected by the House of War. Even though it was discovered that the murder of Aife's father was an unrelated incident, Cu'Ruun continues his investigation out of friendship for the one that saved his life when all others had abandoned him.

-- GhenkiTseng - 23 Jun 2007

Hey Ben. I was thinking about my 'change'. Let me know if you think it's appropriate. Benedict in his attempt to mold the universe (or maybe family) to what he felt was ideal allowed some aspects of his subconscious desire to emerge, namely a desire that Aife was actually his child. After the incident Aife now has hazelnut eyes like Benedict. In addition, and this may cause a small amount of initial panic, all existing trump of her cease functioning.
